AGARTALA, July 26 (TIWN): Members of National Students Union of India, the student wing of Indian National Congress sat in agitation at Teliamura, in protest against the heinous gang-rape of a 17-year-old minor girl. The agitators later placed a deputation to Teliamura PS OC Swapan Debbarma, demanding immediate arrest of the absconding three accused.

On Sunday the members of NSUI staged the protest in Ampi Chowmuhni area of Teliamura near national highway. The agitators showed protest against constantly increasing number of crimes against women in Tripura. The members also demanded  economic support for the victim's family on this protest curriculum.

Reportedly, on 21 July the 17 year old victim was returning home from Chakmaghat when she saw them. Two persons named Kashim Mia and Jahed Mia were in the car when they asked her if she wanted a lift home. Since the girl knew the accused, she got in their car but instead of taking her home, they took her to a forest near Khasiya Mangal area where they took turns to rape her. After she got into the car they called Ahamed Ali, Gani Mia and another one person to join them. The girl was allegedly raped in two cars, among them one was Maruti Alto (K-10), and the other one was a Wagonar.After the assault, the accused dropped the girl near UBI Bank.

After three days of this brutal crime, Teliamura police arrested two of the accused. However, other three alleged rapists are still absconding.
