Rajasthan Crisis : Tripura Congress calls people to join ‘Speak Up For Democracy' movement of Rahul Gandhi

AGARTALA, July 26 (TIWN): With the Rajasthan Crisis, Congress former President Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and urged citizens to raise their voice to "protect democracy" and launched the party's campaign #SpeakUpForDemocracy.

Supporting this, Tripura Congress leader Gopal Roy has called people to join the movement.

"Today, When the entire nation is fighting against coronavirus, the BJP is ripping up the constitution and demolishing our democracy. In 2018, people of Rajasthan elected the Congress government. Today, BJP is conspiring to topple democratically elected Congress government after doing the same in Madhya Pradesh, BJP is now trying to "murder democracy" in Rajasthan," the video released by Rahul Gandhi said.

"We demand BJP to stop toppling democratically elected governments. We demand to immediately convene an assembly session within our constitutional rights. Join #SpeakUpForDemocracy to raise your voice and protect democracy," the voice added.

Rajasthan plunged into a political crisis after differences between the Sachin Pilot and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot came out in the open. Pilot was removed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan and as the state unit chief of the party. 

Rajasthan political stalemate has taken a new turn as Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot sent a new proposal to Governor Kalraj Mishra to call assembly session from July 31.

However, the proposal Governor Kalraj Mishra does not mention the Rajasthah crisis or proving majority by the Ashok Gehlot faction. The proposal that has been sent to the Governor states that the cabinet seeks to have a special discussion on coronavirus and to introduce six bills. However, Ashok Gehlot looks in no mood to let go of what his faction as "BJP's conspiracy to topple the Congress government in the state" as he said on Saturday that if necessary Congress MLAs will meet the President and hold a sit-in outside the prime minister's home to settle the Rajasthan crisis.

On Friday, Congress MLAs had squatted on the lawns of the Raj Bhawan for five hours, demanding a session of the Vidhan Sabha. In Rajasthan news today, Congress will run a nationwide digital campaign "speak up for democracy" as the party accuses the BJP of "murdering democracy".

Sachin Pilot and his rebel camp, meanwhile, remain holed up in Manesar, without much word from any of them.
