Agartala, Nov 20 (TIWN): Amid tight security, rail services were cancelled across the state due to 12-hour strike called by Tripura Pradesh Congress in protest of barbaric lathi-charge imposed by police, TSR and other security personnel during a civil disobedience movement organized by Congress at IGM Chowmohani on November 17, atrocities on women, demanding CBI probe into ongoing multi-crore scams in different blocks in Tripura.
Bandh supporters took out processions in the Agartala railway station from 8 am. Train services were entirely disrupted due to squatting by strike supporters, said railway source. At the airport, flight operations remained normal, but passengers had difficulty in reaching it because of transport problems, airport sources said.
To make the 12-hour bandh successful, over 50 supporters appeared at the Agartala Railway Station and started marching on the rail track. A vast number of security personnel were deployed to maintain the usual train services from Agartala. But the picketers carried out March to cancel train services. They had several discussions with the police officials and concerned authority of Agartala Railway Station.
However, police tried to manage them by showing different problems from cancellation of train services. But the bandh supporters paying no attention to the police sat on the rail track in front of the train. At a point of time, the supporters were turned into irritated when the station master asked them to evacuate the rail track. At last, the train services were cancelled entirely after the supporters started to squat.
As a result all of the rail passengers had to go back to home after booking ticket for travel to different places of the state.
