AGARTALA, November 20 (TIWN): With the value added service to the farmers here at Tripura the Tripura food Processing Unit to add feather and are looking forward for the better investors and the international markets.
Talking to the media persons here on wednesday at the civil secretariat V.K. Bahuguna (IFS), Principal Secretary said that the fruits like Lemon, Jackfruits and Pineapple to be introduced in the recent food processing unit. Following which a high level meeting had already been held where 15-16 shortlisted experts from Kerala had been called to train a section of Self Help Group (SHG) who will be made to get engage in the food processing and along with the IL and FS had been asked for the technical support to the food processing unit , said V.K. Bahuguna.
Adding to that V.K. Bahuguna said that previous year production of the Pineapple here at the state rested at 8 lakh metric ton and it covered the area of 11, 800 hectare of land, whereas the production of Jackfruit was 2, 69, 400 metric ton and the area covered at 9 thousand 21 hectare.
He said that once the value added service is introduced to the food processing unit than the international market like Bangladesh will be available to the state, and it will also benefit the local farmers. Beside the “Rabi Abhiyan” is going well here but 25 percent low and delayed rainfall this year had hampered the production of the Aman crop, said V.K. Bahuguna.
The Government of India has launched the National Mission on Food Processing (NMFP), a newly central sponsored scheme during 12th plan to give impetus to the food processing sector to be implemented by the state governments. In Tripura the state food processing has been constituted for overall coordination and implementation of the scheme throughout the state.
