AGARTALA, November 19 (TIWN): Deprivation has become a daily episode for the sanitation workers of the Tripura (Central) University due to the negligence of the NGO, being handed over the duty to look after the benefit of the workers. However “the committee formed by the University to look after the demand of the workers had decided to discuss the matter within one week. Otherwise we will further organize major protestâ€, said the protesting workers.
The sanitation work of Tripura (Central) University was handed over to a NGO namely Women Development Society. According to the instructions of the University, all the benefits and necessary equipments to be provided to the workers are under the responsibility of the NGOS, but they turned a deaf ear to this. Beside they are providing the minimum amount of salary (Rs 3,000). Further no basic equipments are also available. Getting obstructed to complete the work and to earn their daily bread and butter, the workers at last protest against this. The then the authorities claimed that they will meet the demands of the workers, if they will also clean the other garbages. It is to be mentioned here that if extra work will be done then the female workers will get Rs 300 and male workers will get Rs 500 extra. The workers though agreed to this, but till now, the commitment was not fulfilled. On the other hand, the legal wage of the workers is paid at the last week of the month which creates the workers face difficulties to feed their family members.
The workers in the meantime, placed a 6 charter demands to the committee to look after the matter. The committee had also assured them to place it within one week. If it will not be placed within one week, then further steps will be taken, as informed by the protesting workers. This picture clears the eyes of the people about the corruption of the Tripura (Central) University. Though large number offund are sanctioned by the Central Government but the University , inspite of being spend in the development work, they are using for amusement purposes.
