AGARTALA, May 28 (TIWN): Transport services have been paralyzed throughout Tripura after storm and rain hit the region. On Thursday morning, Baramura (also known as Hatai Kotwr) road and Atharomura and the nearby areas were blocked due to tree had fallen by uprooting from the soil. Amid rains and stormy weathers, restoration workers are underway. The rainy weather to continue haunting for more 3 days, according to Weather Dept. On Wednesday also, whole day works underwent as traffic posts, trees scattered across road not only halted the by-road services, but also caused electricity disruption. Tripura coming Shramik train’s movement was also stopped at the Lumding due to landslide. Already 2 states of Northeast Meghalaya and Assam have been issued with a red-colour coded weather alert from May 26-28 by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday. IMD has predicted very heavy rainfall in these two northeastern states along with others.
Already flood has affected Assam’s 2 lakhs of population.
An official of the IMD’s national weather forecasting centre, Sathi Devi said there is a strong flow of south-westerly winds from the Bay of Bengal, bringing a lot of moisture to these two states.
