AGARTALA, May 18 (TIWN): CPI-M led by GMP, AIKS, TKMU in a joint press meet have voiced for the farmers, accusing the BJP led central govt is privatizing the total Agriculture sector.
On behalf of farmers, AIKS led by Khet Mazoor, AIKS leader Narayan Kar has accused the BJP led central govt for intriguing to remove FCI from food distribution works and to privatize the supplies.
Addressing media, the union has expressed concerns over Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s statements, saying, it is fully indicating a danger ahead for the farmers.
“We are ready to help the Govt but taking the chance of the existing pandemic, the whole system is manipulated. We have already told the Central Govt about our demands but it was sidelined”, said Kar.
“Basically, Govt is trying to handover the agriculture to the private organization. The existing law of Agriculture, which says that commodities will be distributed via Govt institution, Govt is trying to change it now. Union Finance Minister categorially said, that this sector will be freed from Govt control. It means the commodity prices will be beyond Govt’s control”, he said.
The CPI-M also staged a protest and demanded free seed and other items for the farmers.
