AGARTALA, May 18 (TIWN): ‘Nirmala Sitharaman should join cinemas for her acting skills’, said Tripura Congress President Pijush Biswas on Monday reacting over her comment on Rahul Gandhi's works for the poor amid lockdown situations. He called her a ‘Dhappabaaz’ after she called Rahul Gandhi a ‘Dramabaaz’. Her comment came immediately after Rahul Gandhi talked to poor workers and the footage went viral in social media. Addressing media, Congress President Pijush Biswas said, “Today whole India is ashamed of her and talking how such a woman is sitting on the chair of Finance Ministry ?” “When people are under sky and have not shelter without food due to failure of the Modi Govt, then such a statement came from her. Why her package had nothing for the poor ? Why nothing for the farmers ?”, the Congress leader said.“We asked Tripura Govt to seek helps if it does not have sufficient funds but nothing is yet properly done for the poor, migrant workers stranded her and other states", he said.

"The economic package of Nirmala Sitharaman shows her Dramabaazi. Her package only made the industrialists happy, not the workers. Her package is nothing but an approach to loan system. She must join movies”, Pijush Biswas said.

The controversy erupted after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday described Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s meeting migrant workers as “dramebaazi”, or charade.  Gandhi had interacted with some migrant workers returning home at Delhi’s Sukhdev Vihar on Saturday.

While the Congress termed the FM’s comments “frivolous”, it arranged buses for migrants headed for Uttar Pradesh, and complained the UP government did not allow these to cross its borders. The Congress also opposed the government plan to privatise public sector enterprises (PSEs).

Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma said the so-called economic package was only worth Rs 3.22 trillion, and a mere 1.6 per cent of the GDP, and not 10 per cent as the prime minister had claimed. The Congress, however, welcomed the additional budgetary allocation of Rs 40,000 crore for MNREGA.
