AGARTALA, November 17 (TIWN): Pradesh Congress has called 12 hours strike in Tripura on 20th November in protest against massive corruption of Manik Sarkar led CPIM Govt, police atrocities on Congress workers and leaders especially women. Congress Leader of Opposition too got injured and he was sent yo GB Hospital with severe injury on his hand. PCC Executive President Asish Kumar Saha said," Today's mass gathering in Civil Disobedience Movement is the signal for the CPI(M) led corrupt govt and its now clear that the end of CPI(M) is very near. As such without taking proper steps against the corrupt officials and party leaders Manik Sarkar's police come out with its worst brutality on thousands of women and other workers. More than one hundred women Congress workers are injured in ruthless ' lathi charge' by the police. In protest against this govt run barbarism Congress calls for 12 hours Tripura Bandh on 20th November."

Today from 9am,  thousands of Congress workers led by PCC leaders started to gather Agartala from different parts of the state to participate in the Civil Disobedience Movement of the Congress. More than a week before PCC called for Civil Disobedience Movement in protest against the organized corruption in different blocks and Govt departments and demanding CBI probe to bring the truth cone out. Congress has also filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court appealing for CBI probe in the massive MGNREGA scam in Bishalgarh R D Block in which corrupt BDO Bimal Chakraborty, the most trusted official of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and the brother of DYFI State Secretary Amal Chakraborty , is the prime accused. On the other hand protesting against violence against women and the ongoing corruption, PCC also called for Civil Disobedience Movement .

Today when the Congress workers broke the 2nd Police barricade at once without any provocation police started lathi charge against PCC leaders and Congress workers. In police barbarism more than 100 women workers were injured . Speaking to TIWN over phone PCC Executive President Asish Kumar Saha told," Now we are looking after the workers especially those women workers. More than 100, women workers were initially admitted in IGM Hospital but a vast majority of then we're referred to GB Hospital by the doctors. Our volunteers are looking after them.":  Asish Saha categorically said," The entire episode of lathi charge was made under the instruction of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. Scared of facing the opposition party workers Manik Sarkar has left the state on this vary date. But it is he who instructed the police to resort to barbarism. In a civilized society nowhere can one see such type of ruthlessness from police and that too on a peaceful democratic movement." Asish Saha appealed to the people of all sections to support the 12 hours strike on Thursday to show their resentment against this brutality.

As per the decision of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), the TPCC Sadar District Committee comprising of All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Bhupen Kumar Bora alongwith Tripura Pradesh Congress leaders and workers on Monday staged  Civil Disobedience Movement demanding immediate  resignation of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar as he allegedly failed to protect the lives and properties of the women of the state and also regarding the scams in the state. The uninterrupted 21-year stint in power seems to have taken a toll on the financial transparency of the Left Front administration in Tripura. Corruption in implementation of rural development schemes continues unabated. There is a state government of Tripura eats up all of the money which comes from the central government for development, working president of TPCC and MLA Asish Saha, alleged. The state government deep necked in corruption and CPIM is not the Government for the people. The Left Front do not care about peoples and there problems, they do not settle issues. He also criticizes the Left Front Government’s alternative policies and said that those are against common people.

However, during the protest rally of the congress on Monday the Police took to brutal lathi charge on most of the congress protestors at Agartala IGM Chowmuhni. At least more than 50 congress workers and leaders along with women sustained serious injury on police lathi charge. Most of the injured were taken to the GB Hospital. Amongst whom at least 7 are in critical condition at present. Beside Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman, TPCC working president Ashish Kumar Saha and other leaders also sustained injury on the lathi charge. As many as police forces comprissing of TSR special force had been deployed on congress Civil Disobedience Movement on Monday. The police forces were found charging lathis brutally on the congress leaders and acting enough as a barrier to the congress civil disobedience movement. The congress protestors were stopped by the police forces to move to the CM’s residence. And this has now raised a big question over the brutal torture of the police on the congress civil disobedience movement.  However the Congress acting on it, called for a “Tripura Bandh” on Nov 20.

More than 10, 000 congress workers participating on the Congress Civil Disobedience Movement on Monday assembled at Agartala Vivenkananda Stadium and took out their protest rally across the capital city and moved towards CM Manik Sarkar’s residence breaking the Police barricade. The congress through their movement on Monday demands for the CBI probe on Bishalgarh multi-crore scam and CM Manik Sarkar’s resignation from his home port folio for his failure on taking legal steps against the massive Tripura corruptions. The congress Civil Disobedience Movement also raised its voice against the increasing rate of crimes against women, where CM Manik Sarkar - the so called Mr. Clean found often to remain backtrack from visiting the victim’s house.

It is to be mentioned here that the lathi charge on the congress protestors by the police, now raised severe question over the state govt. as corruption burdened state govt. had already shown its pictures and deeds of Mr. Clean on Monday by taking a steps to curtain the protest on corruptions once again. And with this CM Manik Sarkar must be prepare to take another responsibility. The days have come for the people of the state to fall victim on the hand of the Tripura Govt. during protest movement.

However it is to be mentioned here that since after the Tripura Pradesh Congress busted out the  MGNREGA massive corruption at Bishalgarh RD Block, the CPI (M) party workers and the Left front govt. found to be in deep neck in corruption, and with which the big heads of the Melarmath headquarter stands tall till today and they say – “No issue to make the water dirty”. Corruption had gripped allmost every blocks of the state amidst which a section of corrupted employees of the state govt. had already came under the limelight. Whereas on the other the Police as well as CM Manik Sarkar found to be acting as a silent spectator and seems to have opened the gateway of corruption at large now.
