Crimes against women has becoming a daily episode: Another fresh incident detected at Sabroom

AGARTALA, November 17 (TIWN): Crimes against women are growing alarmingly in the golden era of so- called Mr. Clean, Manik Sarkar. Within one month of the brutal torture on Soma Majumder, victim of Chandrapur TataKalibari incident, another fresh case has been registered in Sabroom P.S.

Sources informed that, on Sunday morning, some local leaders had entered the house of Archana Debnath, near Kalacherra primary health centre. After entering the house they brutally tortured Archana (40). At one time they drag Archana out of the house. It is to be mentioned that during torture, the jewelleries of Archana were also being stolen. After hearing the news, police rushed to the spot and shifted her to Kalacherra primary health centre. The victim had lodged FIR bearing No 66 /2014, 326/379/34 IPC.

But the police are not taking any proper steps regarding the matter. But after the publication of the video of the brutal torture, police came to action regarding the issue, the source added. The names of the person lodged in the FIR were Maranibala Debnath (40), Rita Debnath (35), and Ranjit Debnath (50), Hiralal Debnath (45).

Tripura gradually emerges as the unsafe and unproductive place for the women. Every day the number of crime incidents upon women is increasing alarmingly. Recent Tata Kalibari incident at Chandrapur shows the truth that how women classes are molested and assaulted day by day. It is to be mentioned in this connection that the highest ever cases of crimes against women- 40 cases including rape, molestation killings, and murder post rape- were reported to Tripura Police last year in the month of July raising concern among women's organizations in the state.

Data released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) also tell that every second day a woman is raped in Tripura (as of 2012) with the figure of 202 rape cases in 2012 alone. Though the number has seen a downfall from258 in 2011 but during the period from2001 to 2012, this number is seventh most worst. The year which had least rape cases during the said period is2003 with 135. Along with that, the atrocities on the women folk in the names of kidnapping and abduction is numbered as 120 in 2012 with a rising trend as 106 in 2010 and 113 in 2011. The Regional disparity is a sheer instance of shame for Tripura as 87 deaths have occurred, last year, due to dowry While neighboring state Nagaland having not a single such death, as informed by the data source of Open Government Data (OGD) platform of India, maintained by Department of States of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA),Government of India.

Additionally, an alarming 375 cases were reported as regards assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty. 1147 cases were reported under the head Cruelty by Husband or his relatives (Under IPC 498A), in theyear 2012.Not only the serious crimes like murders and women related crimes but the Police have also performed poorly when it comes to safeguarding the properties of people. A mere less than 35 % success rate has been registered.

Though Tripura has recorded marginal fall in the crime against women though of the total cases registered with police about 46.05 per cent are women related cases .Tripura-records-fall-in-crime-against-women but after that the torture on women increased alarmingly. On the other hand in the recent period, a whopping 1,582 cases of rape and other crimes against women had been registered within 71 police stations and 35 police outposts.
