CM reviews progress of infrastructure in medical services: Several multi-storied buildings to be constructed soon

AGARTALA, Nov 15 (TIWN): With an effort to revamp the collapsed healthcare services, the state government has initiated to construct buildings in GPB, IGM and TMC hospital premises in Tripura. Earlier, many allegations were raised by the patients and patient parties about the medical facilities in the so called ‘Golden era’.The ongoing construction for block-I of new Teaching Hospital will be completed by December, this year and Block-II building will be constructed by December, 2016 at GBP and AGMC hospital, Tripura Health and family Welfare Department Friday presented this report in a review meeting at Civil Secretariat. The Operation Theatre (OT) and treatment equipments of ENT, Eye and Orthopedic departments, Radiology department and Trauma Centre will be shifted in the block-I building. The construction for Central Blood Bank building will be finished by the December, next year. However all these multi-crore central govt. funded construction proposals also carry the possible high risk of massive corruption by scam tainted administration, CPIM party's contractors.

The concerned department is expecting, after the completion of all ongoing constructions at GBP hospital, the number of beds for patient will be increased to 791 by March, 2017. The department is also planning to extend the incumbent specialty block in GBP hospital. After the completion of extension work, further the number of beds will be increased to 1000.

To make the Cancer Hospital as complete hospital with all kind of facilities, a seven-storey building will be constructed by the August, 2016. A total of Rs. 40 crore has been estimated for the establishment of this building.

The construction for three multi-storey buildings (one 7 storey and two six-storey) are in progress at IGM hospital. The establishment of three buildings will be completed by the August, 2016. Among them, the 7-storey building will be entirely used for the treatment purpose while other two six-storey buildings will be used for Intern Girls’ and Nurses Hostel and administrative works respectively.

The department also informed that recently, a 60-seat hostel for intern boys has already been constructed at Tripura Medical College and Dr. BR Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital. Besides, the ongoing constructions for intern girls and nurses hostel will be finished by 2015 and establishment for OPD and 750-seat Auditorium buildings are in progress.

The construction of three sub-divisional hospitals at Kanchanpur, Amarpur and Teliamura are likely to be ended by December, 2015. A 100-seat building for South Tripura district hospital at Santirbazar is almost constructed and likely to become operational by December, this year.

According to the latest report of Health and Family Welfare Department, altogether 1015 among 1054 health sub centers have become operational in the different Panchayats and Village Committee areas in Tripura. Besides, constructions for 32 primary health centers are in progress in the different parts of the state.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Health and family Welfare Minister Badal Chowdhury, Chief Secretary GK Rao, Principal Secretaries Dr. KR Rao and Lok Ranjan, Secretary of and Family Welfare Department- M Nagaraju, Engineer-in-Chief of PWD- Sunil Bhowmik amd many other officials attended the meeting.
