Ragging in educational institutions and hostels still prevails: Another fresh case detected

Agartala, November 15 (TIWN): Ragging in different educational institutions and hostels still prevails in the State. Another case of ragging filed against the seniors at Najrul Chatrabas in the heart of capital city- Agartala. After being humiliated by the seniors, the victim immediately left the hostel. However, Hostel Superintendent tried to conceal the incident by saying that, the tortured student can register complaint against the accused seniors.

According to the sources, a section of the senior students used to torture a student belongs to minority community mentally and physically on regular basis at Najrul Chatrabas. Even, the seniors have threatened him for not to flash the information about inhuman torture.

Following the ragging, the tolerance power of the student exceeded and he decided to leave the hostel. On the other hand, Hostel Superintendent said that if this really happened the victim can inform him. But without informing him, he had left the hostel. Amid such inhumane behaviors, the accused are still at large.

However, students caught ragging other students in any educational institution in Tripura will get a maximum of four years in prison and will also be imposed a fine, a government notification said.

The government notification also indicates that under the Tripura Educational Institutions (Prevention of Ragging) Act, 1990, four years in jail and a fine will be imposed on a student found guilty of ragging another student”. The notification was issued by the director of Higher Education Department of with an endeavor to alert students, guardians and authorities of educational institutions after recent media publications on ragging in educational institutions in the state.
