AGARTALA, April 16 (TIWN): Tripura Human Rights Organization has condemned police brutality amid lockdown, which has severely injured a 61 years old, retired Govt officer Joy Krishna Roy in Agartala.
Eminent Advocate Purushottom Roy Barman personally visited the victim’s home and condemned the incident, assured legal help. Advocate Mrinmoy Chakraborty, Koushik Nath also remained present while visiting Joy Krishna Roy’s house.
Joy Krishna Das was severely beaten by police in Agartala on 13th April near Gangail road.
While briefing to media, Joy Krishna Roy hit a section of police, said, “These miscreants can not be called police, but they are doing all means to damage the Govt’s image. I would request the Chief Minister to take proper action. Joy Krishna Roy was the personal secretary to the Governor of Tripura, when Tathagata Roy was the Governor. Joy Krishna Roy is 61 years old was going to the market nearby and also he had to bring medicine for him. All of a sudden, police hit him from behind, used filthy language and broke his hand. Then he was taken to home and then via ambulance he was taken to IGM Hospital, but from there, he was referred to GB hospital. On being asked by media, “I think the Govt officials who are actually hooligans in reality are harassing us to damage the Govt image. I demand proper investigation in this case. Action should be taken by Govt. I am suffering in my 61 years age. Also I am so sad, because I could never imagine, Govt officials can treat senior citizens like this. In a Civilized Country, they are treating us like dogs and goats”.
