Agartala, Nov 14 (TIWN): Several questions on women safety are being raised among the state people once again in Tripura as police could not arrest the accused person till now after an FIR was lodged on Thursday evening against an engineer for allegedly raping a lady engineer. Even in the so called ‘golden era’, top lady officials of administration are seems to be unprotected after a lady engineer was allegedly raped by an engineer. He is reportedly the leader of ruling front employees. A section of ruling front leaders headed by Melarmath are allegedly trying to protect the accused engineer instead of be with the victim.

The lady engineer cum senior manager of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) lodged an FIR at the West Agartala Women police station on last evening against another engineer Santanu Das (43), resident of Kumari Tilla, outskirt of the capital city Agartala with the charges of rape.

According to the police, both, the victim and Santanu joined the department way back in 1997 and they were in love with each other. During their prolonged affairs, Santanu allegedly developed physical relation with her by assuring her to tie the knot. But, Santanu rejected the proposal of victim for marriage.

After being cheated, the victim rushed to the West Agartala Women police station and lodged an FIR against Santanu on Thursday evening. Police registered the case under section 448/ 376 (1)/ 417 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). On being asked, police Friday said, “The accused person is absconding. Police is investigating the matter and trying to nab the allegedly accused person.”

One after another girl, right from 5 years is falling in the trap of evil-eyes. But the so called police department is playing role as mute spectator. The state government also protects the accused persons instead of taking stern action. As a result, the numbers of rape, gang-rape, atrocities on women, murder post rape are alarmingly increased in Tripura.
