AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, March 16 (TIWN): Jamuna Debbarma committed suicide after poisoning own children in Udaipur’s Samukchara whose family was suffering from extreme poverty and unable to bear the expenses of their children’s education. As the incident has generated controversy, BJP Govt is trying its best to prove that no poverty existing in any family in state as this is not the first case where a family died out of starvation. Earlier 11 persons in this state died in starvation, hunger, poverty, suicide. Police have arrested Jamuna Debbarma’s husband Andolon Debbarma who was working in rubber field when that incident took place. On being asked by media, locals of Samukchara village said that Udaipur District Magistrate Tarun Kanti Debnath is falsely stating that Andolon Debbarma’s family income is high. They said, Andolon Debbarma’s income is hardly 5,000 rupees and he works in other people’s rubber garden and per month gets some rubber. Udaipur Congress led by leader Soumitra Biswas met the locals and while meeting locals have alleged poverty has caused the suicide.

Congress has called arrest of Andolon Debbarma, husband of Jamuna Debbarma as the “Goat of Sacrifice” who is arrested, warned to protest on road, terming this arrest is “inhuman”.

The incident took place in Samukchara village under Kakrabon PS. Lots of financial stresses were going on including fees of the children’s school. Thus, out of depression, the mother has reportedly taken the step. Police however has detained the husband, taken for interrogation. This is not the first case of poverty related death but earlier also similar incident happened. At least 11 deaths have been reported in the state last year related to food and poverty including 6 Brus died in starvation in the Kanchanpur.

When the state  was promised by a big-size Vision Document it was never imagined that the Vision Document is not related to Central Funding leading uncontrolled tax imposition on the common men. So far fuel, electricity, trade license, municipality, health services, pensions, water-taxes are subjected to be taxes in addition of slowdown of markets and Govt’s inability to provide rural mandays.
