Governor P.B. Acharya visited USA

AGARTALA, November 11 (TIWN): Governor of Nagaland and Tripura P.B. Acharya made a short visit to America on invitation by the International Central for Cultural Studies (ICCS) from 24th October to 4th November, 2014. He visited different parts of USA and attended various programmes.

On 24th October Governor arrived at Chicago and was received by the Protocol Officers from the office of Consulate General, Chicago. During his stay at Chicago, Governor met the Spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravisankarji, founder of ‘Art of Living’ movement.  Ravisankarji accepted the invitation by Governor to visit Nagaland.

On 25th October the Governor attended a programme organized by the International Central for Cultural Studies (ICCS) at the Hindu temple in Bloomington.  A team of 12 member Naga ethnic artist group which accompanied Governor from India presented a colourful  Programme.

On 26th October Governor went to Detroit, Michigan. A movie titled “Fire is still Burning” by Mr. Audrey was screened at the programme, which is based on the story of American Indian’s struggles and their history.

On 27th October Governor met Wesaw Mathew, the Executive Director of Michigan Civil Rights. During the meeting Wesaw Mathew invited the Governor to attend the 71st Annual Convention of National Council of American Indian (NCAI) at Atlanta, Georgia on 29th October.  Governor met Srini Raman, National Co-ordinator for fund raising for All India Movement (AIM) for seva. AIM seva agenda is to provide access to pre-education to children all over India. Governor requested all of them to visit Nagaland during the 1st week of December on the occasion of ‘HORNBILL FESTIVAL’ to understand the culture of Nagaland.

Governor attended the 71st Annual Convention of National Council of American Indian (NCAI), where nearly 2000 American Indian of 31 Tribes had gathered at annual meeting.  Governor also met Dnyaneshwar  M. Mulay, Consul General of India, New York. The discussed the programmes being conducted by the Consulate in New York for the Americans Indians in the jurisdiction of the New York Consulate. Governor requested that the culture of North East specially Nagaland be showcased during the “State by State Series programme of New York”. Governor also unveiled the statue of Sardar Ballavbhai Patel in the premises of Indian Consulate in New York.
