AGARTALA, November 11 (TIWN): Agartala-Akhaura Rail link Project to receive fund from Department of North-Eastern Region (DoNER). Rs. 302 crore has been sanctioned for the project as per the new land acquisition act. And this is the first ever project in India where the new Land acquisition act will be implemented, said Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik speaking to the reporters here on Monday at the civil secretariat.
Briefing the issue on Agartala-Akhaura Rail Link project Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik said that the Ministry of Railway Affairs can provide the fund only if the project is termed as special land acquisition project. He said, the state govt. is all set to start the project work, and once 60 percent of fund is provided to the land acquisition collector than the revenue department will issue a notice. Beside the state govt. is yet to receive the green signal from Doner, the fund provider of the project.
Adding to that IAS secretary Mr. Bhowmik said that the Ministry of Railway affairs had already submitted the proposal related to fund to the DoNER. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has committed necessary funds to the department of North-eastern region (DONER) for the purpose.And on the other the state govt. of Tripura has already winded up with the land acquisition from Kumarghat to Sabroom. For which 98 acres of land has been done till now where 45-50 houses has fell under. And as per the new land acquisition act, they will be provided with the compensation.
However, the next Project Steering Committee Meeting will be held at Dhaka during the month of November last or first of December, said Mr. Bhowmik.
The Union Government has paved the way for acquisition of land to implement the Agartala-Akhaura rail link project.
