Agartala, Nov 10: Financial development is quite impossible among the people belongs to minority community without implementing the minority welfare schemes, said Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in a review meeting at Civil Secretariat, here today. He further directed to the concerned department to review the progress of minority welfare schemes in every month.

According to the report of Minority Welfare Department, among 35000 religious minority students, altogether 24, 346 students have received a total of Rs. 1.47 crore in the financial year (FY) 2013-14 while 14, 610 students have received in total Rs 64.93 lakh in the FY 2014-15 as pre-metric scholarship. In total Rs. 18.50 lakh has been given to 2970 students out of 15000 religious minority students as post-metric scholarship in the FY 2014-15.

To ensure quality treatment facilities in the religious minority dominated localities, the state government has planned to implement altogether 36 health sub centers and 4 primary health centers through Health and Family Welfare Department and Minority Welfare Department within next five years, he said. Among them, implementation of 8 sub health centers has been completed in the FY 2013-14 while the construction of more six sub health centers is in progress.

According to a PPP by the concerned department, under the sanitation scheme, a total of 519 water closets have been constructed in the FY 2013-14 while 7119 more water closets are likely to be established by 2014-15 FY in the religious minority dominated areas. The state government has distributed financial support of Rs 32, 696.46 among the 6672 farmers through Kisan credit cards in the FY 2013-14.

Mentionable, for the welfare of people belongs to religious minority community, implementation of a special package (FY 2013-14 to 2017-18) is in progress in the state, added Sarkar. To ensure the overall development in the religious minority dominated areas, implementation of several development programmes including road connectivity, supply of drinking water, construction of hygienic water closets, healthcare services, improvement of quality education, creation of employment, development of sports and cultural activities are in progress by the various departments, said Sarkar.

Minority Welfare Minister- Sahid Chowdhury, Chief Secretary- GK Rao, secretaries of the concerned departments including many other high officials attended the review meeting.
