UDAIPUR,November 9 (TIWN): General Manager of Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Ltd Rakhal Sarkar today visited old Raj Bari at Rajnagar , Udaipur to supervise the ongoing construction of reviving the old royal palace.

He came to the old royal palace at 12.30pm . Dy Director Information & Cultural Affairs,Gomati District Mrinal Kanti Das accompanied him. During his visit the GM had a close look on the ongoing construction. He suggested the workers not to make any alteration or modification with the shape and colour of the palace. Rather he suggested to revive the old palace in its original shape.
It is to be mentioned here that during his reign Maharaja Govinda Manikya built this palace,( around 1660AD). The speciality of this palace was that it was made of limestone and brick chips. But simply due to negligence and lack of maintenance this palace almost lost its existence. However,  in 2013 when the state govt decided  to revive this old palace to attract tourists to this palace made world famous by none other than Rabindranath Tagore in his novel " Rajarshi" with its special line ," Eto Rakto Keno?". But from the very beginning discontent was spreading among the tourists and beauty loving people as well as the intellectuals of Tripura were not at all happy with the use of cement that practically seems to change its original colour. At last the visit of GM of TTDCLC and his suggestions made the people of all concerned happy. GM Rakhal Sarkar also said that another open stage (Mukta Mancha) will be constructed here to attract more tourists to this old royal palace near the statue of Rabindranath by digging the soil. From all side there will be stairs to come to the stage. Rakhal Sarkar said," Even from Monday itself cutting of the jungles will start. The fund will be arranged from MGNREGA wages. After clearing the jungles the digging work will start. Hopefully the stage will be completed very soon."
