AGARTALA, Feb 11 (TIWN): Democracy has occupied its grips across India over brutal Governance and negative politics of the BJP with NRC, CAA, NPR like impositions. Amid Saheen Bagh to “Goli Maro” like slogans, BJP fails to impress the Delhi voters. The party which promised to give free-scooty, free houses etc just like Tripura Assembly Election and from PM to Home Minister continued to battle at root-level but people of Delhi rejected dividing policy, blessed AAP. Atleast trend till around 12 noon remained in favour of the AAP. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was leading in Delhi’s bitterly contested state election, racing ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to return to power in the national capital.Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP was leading in 56 of the 70 seats in the assembly and the BJP in 14, said the Election Commission’s website after counting of votes began at 8am Tuesday.

The Congress party, which ruled Delhi for 15 years before being voted in 2013, was yet to open its tally.

If AAP retains power, it will be the third straight electoral setback for the BJP after losing Jharkhand and Maharashtra elections last year. Delhi recorded a voter turnout of 62.59 per cent when elections were held on Saturday, after an acrimonious campaign and with tension high after three incidents of gunfire at or near protest sites in four days.

10.30 AM : As trends come in, the Aam Aadmi Party has crossed the halfway mark in the Delhi assembly elections and looks set to form government again. According to the Election Commission, AAP is leading in 52 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in 18 seats. AAP’s vote share is currently at 51%, and the BJP’s at 41%.

The Congress, according to the EC, is not leading in a single seat. Its vote share is a mere 4.4%.

A party needs 36 seats to win in the 70-member assembly.

Counting of votes for the Delhi assembly elections 2020 began at 8 am on Tuesday. Postal ballots were counted first.

The campaign saw a pitched battle between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party. While the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP focused on issues related to development and the government’s achievements over the last five years, the BJP tried to turn the spotlight on the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests. Several party leaders made communal remarks against the protestors, and some were pulled up by the Election Commission.
