KAMALPUR, November 7 (TIWN): Amidst great enthusiasm and celebrations the people enjoyed the electrifying charm of Maharaasjatra wholenight in the concluding day of four days’ celebration. In the last day the auspicious Raas Purnima and the traditional Raas festival is inaugurated and celebrated this day.
The Maharaas Festival at Baralutma was inaugurated by the MP Shankar Prasad Datta yesterday. In his inaugural speech, Datta said,: “ At present an effort to disunify people in the names of caste, sect religion etc. are very much prevalent in the country. But, in our Tripura the govt. is trying its best to protect the culture and tradition of each community among peace, progress, amity and harmony.The Maharaas jatra at Baralutma at the 118th anniversary is the flaming instance of our inherent peace and amity and also of our strong culture and tradition. This should be kept and protected.”
Mythologically, it is believed that, in this day of Raas Purnima, Lord Krishna performed his divine celebration with his all girlfriends ( sakhis) at a time. To commemorate this divine incident every year the Bishnupriya Manipuri community observes Raasjatra utsav at different places. In Baralutma of this subdivision this celebration continued for four days ending in the day of Raas Purnima.
