Seminar on Rabi Crop held at Agartala

AGARTALA, November 7 (TIWN): A seminar on the rabi crop “Rabi Abhiyan” was organized at Bhagat Singh youth hostel in Khejurbagan, here today. Minister for Agriculture, Tribal Welfare (Excluding TRP, PTG) and Animal Resource Development Aghore Debbarma inaugurated the seminar.

Aghore Debbarma in his address suggested to utilize the modern technology. He said that taking advantage of short and medium duration crops, farmer should cultivate the second crop in rice fallow areas. He urged that farmer should not only practice rice farming but also cultivate second and third crop for better income better livelihood.  

Highlighting the development and major problems behind the cultivation of rabi crops, Aghore Debbarma mentioned that, through the four agricultural subdivisions of Tripura, various projects of agriculture are flourished. Along with that, Minister also focused the future plans for the up gradation of agriculture namely:

1.       The area for the cultivation “Boro crop” should be extended from 6243 hectare to 8614 hectare.

2.       To improve the cultivation SRI method should be implemented in 2940 hectare area.

3.       The quantity of hybrid crop seed should be increased from 127 hectare to 1918 hectare in the              

           ongoing Rabi crop season.

4.       Subsidy should be introduced to buy agricultural equipments.

5.       The use of fertilizer should be increased per hectare.

6.       Most of the villagers should be come under Agriculture loan scheme etc.
