AGARTALA, November 5 (TIWN): With another seize of stolen goods carrier by the cops at Agartala Drop Gate area on Tuesday night, recovery of drugs, smuggling items has gripped the state strongly making it a corridor of smuggling now.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night at around 10:30pm when the Arundhatinagar Police Station.  Cops recovered one vehicle bearing number TR-01-P-1599 at Agartala Drop Gate area and seized maximum stolen goods consisting of woods, generator machine and other materials. According to the police, a team of cops has been guarding the area during the night and at the meantime one vehicle was moving towards the area, and later the police doubted the vehicle, carrying at least 27-28 labours and goods on it and stopped it. The owner of the vehicle Uttam Kumar Ghosh was driving the vehicle and later he was asked to show valid documents of the vehicle, but he failed to do so.

And then when the police seized the vehicle, the driver along with the labours went away from the area. But after at least 15-20 minutes suddenly they came back and started taking out the goods from the vehicle in front of police. The cops when tried to stop them,  the owner of the vehicle Uttam Kumar Ghosh misbehaving with the police assaulted them. However later a huge police team reached the spot and arrested the accused driver Uttam Kumar Ghosh. All the goods that the vehicle was carrying with those were stolen goods – said Police.

FIR has been lodged against the accused driver and another with him at Arundhatinagar Police Station.

It is to be mentioned here that large parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar are emerging as drug consuming zones, and bordering areas of Tripura are contributing to the fast-emerging drugs market, the source mentioned.
We are well aware of the situation and the police often detain vehicles and seize thousands of bottles of Phensedyl consignments that are not used in Tripura. But, this is just the tip of the iceberg. The network is very deep-rooted and widespread. However, to mention here the Phensedyl smuggling would, in future, become a major deterrent to better Indo-Bangla relations.
