AGARTALA,November 4 (TIWN): From the Bishalgarh MGNREGA scam to brutal torture on Soma Majumder in TATA Kalibari incident Chief Minister Manik Sarkar remained silent as the culprits in this case are either closed to him or his party cadres. Now as the media has become proactive and not even hesitating to publish Manik Sarkar's involvement with some of the accused persons, suddenly the so called 'Mr White' Chief Minister has made a section of media his target. It is simply with the malicious attempt to suppress the truth. Recently Manik Sarkar has been in the headlines not because of his or his party's or his govt's noble deeds but because of his long silence over corruption issues and mafia giri of his comrades. Instead of taking any action against corrupt officials, this Left Govt totally controlled by Manik, has given punishment to some of the honest officials and even the former Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury. When media has been publishing the truths with documents, Manik Sarkar quite shamelessly attacked a section of media at Sonamura Motor stand inauguration on last Friday, Oct 31st.

In a round about way Manik Sarkar tried to threaten the 'Fourth Pillar of Democracy' saying ," These days a section of media is excessive overlaying ." Actually Manik Sarkar probably meant to say that the duty of media , especially those in Tripura, is simply to promote him as 'Honest(?)', 'Clean(?)' and 'Poorest' CM in the country. Manik Sarkar might have forgotten that media is committed to the people not to the CM like him or any political party. Whatever corruption is there should be published supported by truth . Yes, when the govt does anything good, this too is published. Known for his 'lecture giving attitude'  Manik Sarkar should not focus on what the media is doing ; rather he must concentrate on giving justice to the people and also doing justice to his constitutional post.

That blaming the media for ' over playing' is not true can be easily guessed from the following facts:-

1) MGNREGA scam was discovered in May and he suppressed the IAR four more than four months as the prime accused is 'his special one'

2)On 19/05/2014 Former Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury gave a note to lodge FIR after IAR unearthed Rs 17 crore MGNREGA scam ; but on 23rd May Manik Sarkar removed Badal Chowdhury from Finance Ministry

3) Director, Audit who played a key role in discovering the MGNREGA scam and several other scams; but he was removed from the post Director, Audit and has been transferred to SIPARD

4) In the TATA Kalibari incident police was not not yet ready to register FIR against Manik's comrades; only after the strict steps taken by the Governor P B Acharya police came in to action

5) All over the state ' Corruption Featival' is going on but the 'honest(?)' CM remained silent for long

Interestingly Manik Sarkar said on Friday at Sonamura," Soon after knowing the MGNREGA scam from the Finance Minister I instructed high level inquiry against it." Is the removal of Badal Chowdhury from Finance Ministry and Director. Audit from his post are the parts of his 'high level inquiry'? Actually Manik Sarkar knew that if Congress remains honest about the PIL in High Court( smell of closed door deal is already emitting), CBI will be handed over the case. And once the CBI comes, it will flash the real face of this govt in public. Targeting media is not at all new from the top most person of a govt especially when the media gets vocal against corruption and missrule. Even his predecessors like Buddhadeb Bhattacharya in West Bengal did the same. Once upon a time ' Brand Buddha' was the catch line of Manik's party but now this ' Brand' is out dated. Similarly recent allegations against Manik Sarkar might have given him the right signal to attack media. That's why he is furious against media. But how shamelessly he took refuge in lies and that too in public that he ' instructed for high level inquiry in MGNREGA scam'! After widespread protests from media and opposition parties, police started enacting drama in Bimal's case as per guidelines of top boss.
