AGARTALA, Dec 18 (TIWN): After CPI-M’s youth wings SFI, TSU, DYFI, TYF on Tuesday held massive protest in Agartala against Police’s barbaric attacks on Jamia Millia Islamia students during Anti-CAB / CAA protests, Congress’s students wing NSUI also staged a demonstration against police’s barbaric attacks on the students.

A sit-in-demonstration was staged by NSUI with black coloured cloths covered on faces.

The trouble began on Sunday evening after what started as a peaceful march by students - against the controversial new citizenship law - ended in a pitched battle between a violent mob and Delhi Police. By the time the dust settled, several hours later, more than a hundred two-wheelers, at least three public buses and a fire truck were either torched or damaged

The violence left dozens of students and some cops injured.

The cops, who have been accused of mounting an unnecessarily brutal crackdown, had also entered the Jamia campus - without permission - in pursuit of protesters, and detained students who were released at 3.30 am on Monday after a show of strength outside Delhi Police Headquarter by students from Jamia, DU and JNU.

The way Delhi Police dealt with the CAA and NRC protesters at Jamia Millia Islamia, invited a country-wide outrage. Not only Indian universities like Aligarh University, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, DU, Guwahati University, are carrying out protest marches against the brutal method with which Delhi Police terrorised the students of Jamia, but there are protests going on in universities like Harvard, Oxford and Columbia too.

Social media is full of nothing but videos of Delhi Police thrashing students mercilessly with lathis and firing tear gas bombs. There have been reports that students who were studying in the library were beaten up too.
