AGARTALA, Dec 16 (TIWN): Supreme Court has listed Tripura Royal scion Pradyot Manikya’s petition against CAA on Wednesday‬, said the Royal scion.
“I will do my best to ensure that the concerns of the Northeast and Tripura on the Citizenship Act are brought to the attention of the SC”, stated Pradyot Manikya.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi will be representing Pradyot Manikya in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Manikya who quit the Congress party recently said he had moved the Supreme Court against the “unconstitutional” Citizenship Act that for the first time allows citizenship on the basis of religion to six communities in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Like other Northeast States, Tripura witnessed violent protests against the Act.
Pradyot Manikya, who was invited to Delhi by Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a discussion, said Tripura was never under British rule and the State has already accommodated persecuted migrants from Bangladesh.
Tripura Royal scion Pradyot Manikya is all set to file a petition challenging the controversial Citizenship Amendment bill dealing with refugee naturalisation in the Supreme Court.
