AGARTALA, November 3 (TIWN): A crucial high level meeting between India and Bangladesh on joint survey of the Radial Interconnection line from Suryamaninagar (NER, India) to South Comilla (Bangladesh) was held at Pragna Bhavan here today. In meeting the high level officials are likely to finalize the route for the proposed power trade route from the Palatana power plant with Bangladesh. Three routes were proposed in the draft; one among these likely to be finalized by the officials. The Bangladesh delegation was led by Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) Executive Director Choudhury Alamgir Hossain, Chief Engineer (Pand D) and BPDB, MD. Mizanur Rahman and Superintending Engineer of Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) Arun Kumar Saha.

An Indian delegation comprising of Central Electricity Authority (CEA) Director Ravinder Gupta, GM (P) M. Hazarika of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), AGM of (CTU-Planning), PGCIL Ashok Paul, Assistant GM of PGCIL M.S.K. Singh.  A separate regional delegation of the Power Grid and few officials from the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) were present in the meeting.

It is learnt that the Bangladeshi delegation and the Indian delegation will visit OTPC 726.6 combined cycle thermal power plant and they will also visit the Suryamaninagar sub-station in West Tripura district.

The newly constructed Suryamaninagar sub-station in West Tripura district was erected with installed capacities for international power trading. The sub-station was constructed with provisions for two bay area’s to make the transmission compatible with Central Transmission Unit (CTU). All expenses would be borne by the PGCIL and the Government of India.

400 KV Power transmission lines would be extended till South Comilla in Bangladesh, a official said adding that 132 KV power load would be thrown in the line.

The proposed transmission line are likely to be erected covering Kanchanmala, South Champamura, Gokulpur, Old Rajnagar, Koiadhepa, South Konaban till South Comilla.

Palatana OTPC project has already disappointed many citizens of the state after its successful installation, despite the glorious inauguration of the project been made by President Pranab Mukherjee back on June, 2013.

It may certainly raise question on whether the meet shall strike a good socio-economic balance through bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh, from which the state can benefit handsome revenue eventually.
