AGARTALA, Oct 28 (TIWN): ‘Saddam Era’ type pressure continues against the previous CPI-M Govt’s former Minister Badal Chowdhury, bureaucrats in Tripura as amid holiday, former PWD Chief Engineer who was hospitalized followed by alleged Police tortures in the custody in his illness, he was inhumanly dragged to the Magistrate’s court today after immediately hospital had discharged him. Not only this, BJP Govt lawyers said that as soon as Badal Choudhury will be discharged from the ILS hospital, 7 days Police remand will be sought from the Special Court. Today after the case of Sunil Bhowmik was placed in the Magistrate’s court, Judicial Magistrate Mitra Das has reportedly denied to hear BJP Govt Lawyer’s plea on it and referred to the Special Court only under which the case is now being observed and thus the plea will be heard on 30th October. Govt Advocates said that for today Sunil Bhowmik is sent to jail till the court holiday ends on October 30. “First we got 4 days police custody for Sunil Bhowmik and then 5 days but he was hospitalized and thus could not be interrogated properly. Today, we have appealed for more 3 days police remand".

As it is holiday and that’s why he was produced before the Magistrate Court but the Magistrate said that she is not authorized to hear the plea. So, on 30th October in the Special Court the whole case will be placed and our plea for police custody will be submitted there”.

Sunil Bhowmik dragged to Magistrate Court for more police remands, appeal denied for hearing

Former PWD Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmik who was arrested on October 14 amid his ongoing severe health issues over an alleged PWD scam, was hospitalized on October 20, 2019.

Advocate's statement after Sunil Bhowmik's was produced in Magistrate's court

It can be mentioned here that on 16th October, during PWD case’s hearing including former Minister Badal Choudhury’s case, Bhowmik who is high blood pressure, sugar patient was forced to stay without food, water throughout day and later a petition was filed in Court for his food but then also he wasn’t serve with food for long. This incident was condemned by Human Rights activists.

On 20th October, suddenly his health deteriorated and was brought by police in hospital, later referred GB hospital. Today he was released and after hearing was denied, sent to Jail custody. 

Bhowmik was once most popular Chief Engineer in his tenure and grabbed day-night news headlines in leading news papers during massive construction works undertook during the former PWD Minister Badal Choudhury’s Ministry.

He was arrested on 14th October after BJP Govt brought allegation against the PWD Dept for Rs. 600 crore’s inappropriate utilization.

According to the case, there is however no personal charge against anyone yet, but the Govt claimed that 10% extra was invested or paid to the construction companies which could be avoided.
