AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, Oct 27 (TIWN): Tripura’s unemployment reached its highest peak as per CMIE Data during BJP’s rule. Although opposition parties are hoisting protests, alleging massive unemployment rates in Tripura referring CMIE data, but Chief Minister Biplab Deb has stretched the employment card holders’ data which will be reported shortly claiming only 2.56 lakhs of youths remained unemployed in Tripura whereas around 5 lakhs (4.75 lakhs) became job creators, enabling other unemployed youths to get jobs. CM said this while addressing in Durga puja’s programme on the evening of Astami at United Club in Belonia, South Tripura in the presence of MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik. Biplab Deb said, “Tripura’s unemployment rate dropped from 7.75 lakhs to 2.56 lakh as 4.75 lakhs became job creators”. Deb also slammed the previous Govt for high unemployment rate, claiming now with massive numbers of job creators created in the state in last 18 months, the unemployment problem is ended. CM asked, whether it is not a matter of pride for the people of Tripura that unemployment rate is at down ? He also compared if Govt jobs mean employment then Anil Amabi, Tata are too unemployed.

Recently, in another occasion, Biplab Deb while addressing in the inauguration programme of “Angikar”, a statewide programme, at Agartala Town Hall praised his Govt for increasing revenue collections via GST and transparent monitoring systems. CM said because business has developed in the state, thus revenue generation has increased whereas the previous Govt was dependent upon the central govt for each funding.

CM also said that there are only 8,000 tax-paying businessmen in Agartala whereas 12,000 businessmen do not give taxes. CM came to know about it from a section of businessmen who came to meet him at CM’s quarter recently to talk about the increased taxes, which was step back by the Govt after talking to them. Mentioning withdrawal of the taxing decision, CM said, “Govt also may commit mistakes but it can rectify too. There is no embarrassment because this Govt is for the people and the revenue is also for the people”. Deb said, the remaining 12,000 businessmen do not have problems to pay taxes but they are doing business in rent and thus if agreement with the owners are instructed then taxes can be started to take.

CM further mentioned in CPI-M Govt’s time the revenue was only 9.8% which has now increased into 26%.

“I know business actually. Also there is a give and take relation with the public. We are utilizing funds for development works from the collected funds from the public. So, in eitherway, the public are getting back their moneys in return”, Deb said.

On the other side, with slow-down, heavy fall on GDP and massive unemployment, job-terminations, opposition CPI-M and Congress geared up for massive protests in the state Tripura, as Tripura is now at top position in the unemployment rates.

Congress further criticized the Govt as “Anti-Unemployed” for terminations of employees who were working on contract basis including JICA, NHM, MGNREGA etc.

CMIE report however said, unemployment rate of Tripura is 31.2% which is highest in the whole country.
