Agartala, October 30 (TIWN): Sewerage system of Tripura’s capital city extensively depends on Katakhal since 1974, which has currently staged a pathetic management of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) with poor conduction by administration.
Infrastructure of Katakhal was initiated and built during the tenure of late Tripura Chief Minister Sukhamoy Sen Gupta. But the constructed canal lay in dilapidated condition on recent times in the city upon which the drainage system relies in the capital town.
The capital city has earned the status of Municipal Corporation, but on several instances the basic outlook requires to get a proper decorum on the banks of Katakhal canal that flows through the major portion of the town.
However, the government and administrative head honchos of AMC has kept such a crucial issue of the city on pending files of their official dossier, with rising number of mushrooming slums gradually occupying a major chunk of the banks beside Katakhal.
Agartala being a flood plain in the state needs to sustain with its proper sewerage system based on Katakhal majorly. But the canal has become a source serving many unregistered dwellers on its bank. “We are citizens of the state and hold a ration card, but if the government doesn’t give us a right place to construct houses, we have to choose certain alternative place to reside,” stated a dweller living at a slum on the bank of the canal.
Moreover, the water of the canal remain stagnated on several parts of Katakhal, which has made it one of the unhygienic locations of the city, that AMC has overlooked rather than putting an extra stress with major necessity for maintenance of city status.
