AGARTALA, Oct 20 (TIWN): Since the beginning high negligence was alleged with former Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmik’s health and finally his health deteriorated suddenly and admitted at IGM hospital today. He was in police remand for interrogation. From IGM hospital he was referred to GB hospital but so far police didn’t gave any statement why only at one week his health fall like this ? On 16th October, the Former PWD Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmik along with other 9 accused persons who were brought from Bishalgarh jail after 8 AM's meal have not provided with food, water till midnight. After petition filed, Judge ordered police (Food inspector) to provide necessary items as Sunil Bhowmik and other accused persons. Sunil Bhowmik is diabetes and high blood pressure patient, but the police officer was going missing for hours. Human Rights activists, Advocates have condemned the brutality of police. However, with this retired officer’s health fall, resentments have brewed among the public.Talking to family members, they said they don't know anything but suddenly was informed to come in GB hospital.

Former PWD Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmik who was arrested on October 14 amid his ongoing severe health issues over an alleged PWD scam, was hospitalized today. On 16th October, during PWD case’s hearing including former Minister Badal Choudhury’s case, Bhowmik who is high blood pressure, sugar patient was forced to stay without food, water throughout day and later a petition was filed in Court for his food but then also he wasn’t serve with food for long. This incident was condemned by Human Rights activists.Today suddenly his health deteriorated and was brought by police in hospital, later referred GB hospital. However, no statement was received from family members or police.

Bhowmik was once most popular Chief Engineer in his tenure and grabbed day-night news headlines in leading news papers during massive construction works undertook during the former PWD Minister Badal Choudhury’s Ministry.

He was arrested on 14th October after BJP Govt brought allegation against the PWD Dept for Rs. 600 crore’s inappropriate utilization.

According to the case, there is however no personal charge against anyone yet, but the Govt claimed that 10% extra was invested or paid to the construction companies which could be avoided.

CPI-M has alleged such actions of police are nothing but under pressure from ruling Govt which aimed to hide its Govt’s massive failures and anti-people decisions which have caused massive resentments among the people. The party also challenged the Govt, there was no loopholes in construction and everything was transparent which will be proven surely in the coming days. 

Also, Badal Choudhury’s anticipatory bail petition will be heard tomorrow in Tripura High Court.
