One person reported dead due to the hit of Meningococcal meningitis

Agartala, October 30 (TIWN): One person died in the Longtarai due to the affect of Meningococcal meningitis. Lalbati Reang (38), who was admitted in the Manu hospital, had died after all the attempts of the doctors.

Earlier, Sources informed that, on 26th October, a woman named Lalbati Reang was admitted in the Chailengta Hospital. She was reported to suffer from high fever. Noticing the serious condition of Lalbati, the doctors of the respective hospitals rapidly referred her to Kailasahar Hospital. But, instead of this the patient party had admitted her to Manu hospital. There, her treatment was under process.

Though, immediately , after hearing the news, the Director of Dhalai district, Sanjoy Biswas had rushed to the spot and held a meeting with the director of sub-division, Dr. Sumit Debbarma, Malaria officer of the Dhalai District, Dr. Padmaram Jamatia and the all the in-charges of the sub-division. An experienced doctor’s team had already been sent to the area. But the death incident had washed away the sleep of Mr. Biswas. In the meantime, another health monitoring team was sent to the affected area, along with the ASHA workers and MPW’s.

On the other hand, it was instructed that after every three year, the vaccination to prevent the outbreak of this deadly disease had been provided. Inspite of that how, a person get affected by this. This surely raised questions on the activities of the Health Department.  However, every month, a meeting was conducted to discuss the overview of the deadly diseases, where many ministers were also present. Though the matter was never raised in the agenda of the cabinet meeting.

Earlier, five years back, this meningococcal had turned the entire area into a dead field. More than 35 persons, including children were the victim of this deadly disease. Meningococcal disease describes infections caused by the bacterium   termed as meningococcal. It carries a high mortality rate if untreated but is a vaccine preventable disease... While best known as a cause of meningitis, widespread blood infection is more damaging and dangerous. Meningitis and meningococcemia are major causes of illness, death, and disability in both developed and under developed countries worldwide
