AGARTALA, Oct 11 (TIWN): Tripura Congress launched a massive protest against increasing load-shedding problems in the state along with recently hiked 7.5% tariffs on the Electricity. A big rally kicked off from the State Congress Headquarter in Agartala Post Office Chowmuhani, marched towards the TSECL office for placing a deputation to the CMD of TSECL. Addressing media ahead of the rally, Congress leader Gopal Roy said, “As you know Tripura for a long period of time is being suffered due to heavy load-shedding problems. When load-shedding problems are hitting the state on that time, this anti-people Govt has come up with a new shock for the consumers by increasing the tariffs of electricity. As a result the electricity bill to be doubled. We condemn the decision of the Government. The Govt must scrap the notification, when already electricity tariff is highâ€.“Our aim behind the protest is to voice against the unbearable load-shedding in Agartala. The situations of urban and villagers are more pathetic. In the Durga puja season also same load-shedding problems hit the common men in the capital city Agartalaâ€, said Roy.

On the background of the protest, Congress leader, cum BJP’s former Vice President Subal Bhowmik said that this decision of the Govt is aimed to hit the common men, specially poor men.

“Congress condemn this decision of increasing electricity tariffs. Public will realize how much tariffs were increased by the Govt. This cruel decision was taken when whole media world to common men were busy in Durga puja celebrations. Govt must withdraw the decision immediately”, Subal Bhowmik said further mentioning about Govt another anti-people decision of scrapping free medical services from Govt hospitals.
Earlier on Sept 6, in a notification (claimed later as draft) Tripura Health Dept scrapped free medical services from all Govt hospitals, which erupted statewide massive protests.
Congress leader Gopal Roy today said that on these increasing taxes, his party to be continuing various protests in the coming days if these anti-people decisions are not withdrawn immediately.
