AGARTALA, Sep 20 (TIWN): Today is the second death anniversary of Tripura's young TV channel journalist Santanu Bhoumik who was killed brutally on September 20, 2017 in a political clash at Mandai. The political clash was instigated allegedly by BJP's present ally IPFT against whom CBI has registered cases including an MLA but no action so far. The murder case was handedover to CBI after the BJP-IPFT formed a Govt in Tripura and CBI booked around 300 IPFT activists including one MLA, but no development in the investigation yet, which has frustrated the journalists. Santanu Bhoumik was also an active member of CPI-M's youth wing DYFI.
Ironically, BJP party which played major role in protest against Santanu Bhoumik’s murder incident, today has no voice for the killed journalist.
BJP also gathered mass-sympathy and the party activists marched for Santanu in Left rule Tripura back in 2017.
Moreover, like many more media houses Channel Din-Raat where Santanu Bhoumik was working is itself shutdown under the BJP Govt’s dictator era.
However, Channel Din-Raat has continued to serve high quality news contents via youtube and social media.
Channel Din-Raat came under BJP Govt or BJP backed media house owners’ direct attack like other channels as Akash Tripura, Channel Mrinalini and Daily-Desher-Katha (a 40 years old newspaper in Tripura) and most popular Northeast webmedia tripurainfoway.com.
Santanu Bhoumik was killed on September 20, 2017 when he was collecting news during alleged IPFT led violence in Mandai. Santanu during a political clash was hit by heavy stick on his head and soon he was stretched to a jungle and was brutally killed.
