AGARTALA, Aug 27 (TIWN): In a good news for hilly state Tripura, the state has been recognized by NITI Aayog for performing well on Water Index.
In a tweet NITI Ayog said, “States that have performed well on the Water Index are well placed to become torchbearers of good Water management for other regions in the country. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Tripura have ranked highest among North-Eastern and Himalayan states.
State Govt led by Chief Minister Biplab Deb has made it possible only at 1.5 years of the Govt.
CM in a tweet said, "Delighted to know that #Tripura is performing well in Water Resource Management, we are committed to full fill PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji's vision of #NewIndia. Shri Modi ji has started an effort to promote water conservation keeping in mind the challenges for future generations. I sincerely thank 37 lacs people of #Tripura & Administration of our state. With everyone's help & support our State is moving forward on the path of progress and development. I would also like to thank NITI Aayog for appreciating our Work".
The report also revealed that only around 32% of the 352 million litres per day of waste water generated in the hill state was being treated despite there being capacity to treat 57% of it. “Installed treatment capacity and actual treatment rates differ, highlighting under-utilisation of treatment capacity by states,” the report said.
In another glaring example, the report also showed that only around 57% of the rural habitations in the state had drinking water facilities while only 3% of the total irrigated land in the state was covered under the micro-irrigation system.
