Students gaining interest in higher education: CM

Agartala, Oct 24 (TIWN): The state government is likely to establish a state University in Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College, said Tripura Chief Minister- Manik Sarkar in a review meeting of Higher Education Department at conference hall of Secretariat, here today. He directed the Higher Education Department to pass the University’s construction related bills in the next Assembly session.

The Chief Minister also directed the concerned department to complete the ongoing construction work of TIT within next two years. Sarkar further directed the concerned department to set up separate common bathroom for boys and girls, separate toilets, canteen, library, auditorium and infrastructure for sports. He also directed to the concerned department to start the ensuing construction work of a building for English Medium School in the space old central jail immediately.

During the review meeting, Higher Education Department informed, after the introduction of Ten-year perspective plan, rate of student’s enrolment in different colleges is being increased to 13.64 per cent in this year while the enrollment rate was 7.12 per cent in the year 2010. The total number of Degree College and Assistant Professor is also being increased to 22 colleges and 501 Assistant Professor in 2014 while altogether 15 colleges and 415 Assistant Professor were there in the state in 2010. Besides, in total 310 post-graduate teachers and 396 guest lecturers at present in the colleges.

After review the higher education sector, Chief Minister said, “The rate of enrollment is gaining which indicates the extension of higher education is going on in the state. Besides, students are gaining interest for higher education.” Sarkar also warned the college teachers to avoid private tuition by directing the secretary of concerned department to issue a circular. The state government will take action against those teachers who are involved in private tuition, he said. 

To manage the internal administration in colleges properly, Manik directed to create a 5-member team with the principle, vice-principle, teachers, council secretary and two veteran professors in every college within next 7 days.

The Higher Education Minister- Tapan Chakraborty, Chief Secretary- G.K. Rao, Principal Secretary Dr. V.K. Bahuguna, Secretary of Higher Education Department- Ashutosh Jindal, the principles, principles (in charge) of different degree colleges, technical colleges and technical institutions including many other high officials attended the meeting.
