Tourism Department to provide 8 new boats to Chabimura to boost tourism

AGARTALA, July 21 (TIWN): It is seen that from last year 2018, the flow of tourist to Chabimura has increased. At the same time, there is a need to provide tourism facilities for tourists at Chabimura. Therefore, the Tourism Department has decided to provide new 8 boats for river journey at Chabimura by spending more than ₹ 1.5 Crores.

As per information of tourism department, large number of tourists have started visiting Chabimura. On weekend more than 500 tourists are visiting Chabimura per day to enjoy the river journey and visit the caves and famous rock carvings including that of Chakrama.

At present, there are only 5 boats available in Chabimura, 3 FRP boats are given by TTDCL and two are private. Sometimes one or two boats are under repair due to engine failure etc

Due to increased tourist flow at Chabimura, the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation TTDCL has decided to deploy 8 new boats for Chabimura. Total 5 boats will be stationed at Chabimura Ghat and 3 at Maharani Ghat. There will be 6 FRP boats with 20 passenger capacity and 2 boats with 12 passenger capacity. These boats will be fitted with 40 HP and 50 HP high power engines.

Tender was invited in June 2019 and the supply order will be issued by 25th July. and new 8 boats will be supplied by 15th Sep 2019. New boats shall remain under Annual Maintenance Contract for 5 yrs by the supplier.

The old and new boats together will be able to handle 1000 tourists per day as one river journey takes around two hours to complete. There will be two jetties installed so that passenger can load and unload boats with ease.

Tourism Department has also prepared plan to improved other facilities like Guide Service, Cafeteria, Gazebos for tourist waiting and drinking water facility at Chabimura keeping in view its potential to attract more tourists.
