Agartala, Oct 21 (TIWN): A delegation of Sarba Daliya Refugee Development Committee Tuesday met the Tripura Governor- P.B. Acharya and submitted a memorandum seeking rehabilitation and financial assistance in favour of 3,500 homeless families under Jampuijala block.

According to the letter placed to Governor, over 3,500 Bengali families were left their lands and homes as they were afraid to the militants at Jampuijala, Takarjala, Gabardi and Golaghati area on the way back 1998-2000 respectively. And for the last 16 years they have been residing in their relative’s houses at Agartala and its adjacent places. It was also mentioned in the letter; over 115 youths were killed by the militants in between 1999-2000.
While visiting the Governor at raj Bhavan, the committee alleged, despite several deputations, the state government did not take any initiative for the welfare of homeless people.  During a demonstration infront of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in the year 2000, the state government had assured to provide financial support and rehabilitation in the different parts of the state.  But the state government still remained silent on this issue, the committee said.
The delegation also expressed to the Governor that the previous governors of Tripura were also deputed many times on this issue but the helpless people did not received any assistance.
During the visit, the committee demanded; to declare the name of the refugee families officially, to provide Rs 5, 00, 000 to each family as financial assistance and immediate rehabilitation to the homeless families.
