Sonamura, Oct 21 (TIWN): For the second time in the last couple of months, a large-scale cleaning drive was undertaken today in the SDM Sonamura office with voluntary participation of its staff-members. The cleaning drive was accomplished as part of the ‘Swachha Bharat Abhijan’, which has gained momentum in the sub-division with different schools, colleges, panchayat and urban local bodies, and different government offices showing exemplary zeal and drive to make their institutions clean, hygienic and comfortable.
Today’s cleaning drive was led from the forefront by the SDM Sonamura, Subhasis Das. Not only the different sections, interiors and exteriors of the SDM office were cleaned of accumulated garbage and dust, but also the adjoining offices like Sonamura Sub-Treasury, Sonamura Sub-Registry, Sub-Divisional Welfare Office, etc. were also given a facelift by the enthusiastic participation of the employees posted at the respective offices.
It may be mentioned that the SDM Sonamura office is housed in an old, worn-out building that dates back to the year 1950, with Sonamura being one of the oldest sub-divisions of the state. Naturally, time has taken its toll on the structure of the building; and over the years, a considerable amount of garbage and wastages had accumulated in its different sections, which not only constrained the available workspace, but also made the office extremely inconvenient for the staff to work in. Accordingly, it was decided by the sub-divisional administration, even before the Swachha Bharat Abhijan was formally kicked off, to do whatever was possible to make the office assume a neat and clean look. Already, the precedent set up by the sub-divisional administration has inspired several other government offices and educational institutions to take on similar initiatives, and the ripples of the ongoing cleaning drive are now being felt all across the sub-division.
