AGARTALA, June 30 (TIWN): Tripura is one of the leading pineapple growing States in the country. The pineapple which grows in abundance throughout the State has potential for augmenting the income of the farmers'. CII has been working in tandem with the State Government to improve the pineapple sector in the state since 2011. Tripura produces the finest table variety, the Queen variety in the country which has high potential for export. Last year, 7 MT was exported to the Middle East and this year too the state Government of Tripura is contemplating to send more consignments to other countries in Europe as well besides Middle East, a press note of the Govt of Tripura said.

Tripura has started exporting pineapples first ever in the neighboring country Bangladesh.Report says that the pineapples were exported from Tripura to Bangladesh’s Comilla district through Srimantapur Land Custom Station (LCS) last week.Earlier, Govt started pineapple export in Dubai.

Recently state BJP said that per week at least 200 matric tons pineapples were exported.80 matric ton pineapple are at average sent to Delhi, 6 metric ton at Bangladesh, in West Bengal 15 metric ton. 

 After the resounding success of joint initiatives to promote the sector, it has been felt that Government and Private Sector need to work together to improve the horticulture sector by creating adequate forward and backward linkages. Visualising the immense potential in the pineapple sector in Tripura, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organizing the 4th CII Tripura Pineapple Festival 2019 on 28 June, 2019 at Pragna Bhawan, Agartala, Tripura.

 The Pineapple Festival aims to bring together various stakeholders like Government, allied agencies and private investors, local pineapple growers, Pineapple producers societies etc. on a common platform for identifying value addition and business opportunities for the Pineapple Industry in Tripura through exchange of ideas, knowledge, and experience at regional level via one to one interactions. It also aims to appraise the pineapple growers on intermediary and affordable technologies for pineapple processing via an Exhibition display.
