Agartala, October 20 (TIWN): The lack in storage system of Food Corporation of India’s (FCI) go-down resulted in the sufferings of the Indian truck-drivers. Sources informed that due to arrival of Andhra rice via Ashuganj port of Bangladesh, during the last fifteen days fifty Indian trucks were not given permission to enter the go- down. As there is not enough storage system, if the rice of these tricks are stored, there will be no space left for the second consignment of Andhra rice, said a FCI official.

However, no facilities had been arranged for the Indian drivers, though there is enough facility for the Bangladeshi drivers.
Earlier, the Officials of Food Department informed that the second consignment of rice will arrive in the State last week. But proving their information totally untrue, it is now informed from the sources that the second consignment of rice will be arriving on Tuesday. In the meantime ships carrying 5thousand metric tons rice arrived in the Ashuganj port yesterday. Thereafter loading in the trucks near about 1lakh 861bags of rice carrying 50kg in each bag started arriving at Agartala for fifteen days.
It is to be mentioned here that duty of arriving the consignment of rice to Agartala is vested upon an organization of named as Food Corporation of India (FCI). Earlier, these consignments are reached through railway and Lorries. But due to the interrupted rail services from October 1st, due to the setting up of Lumbding-Agartala Broad-gage line. The National Highway is the only solution. In order to share some of the responsibilities, Indian Government decides to store the rice through the seaway of Bangladesh. Bangladesh on humanitarian background agreed for this import.
On the other part, the rice from Andhra, reaches Kolkata’s Diamond Harbour port on October 6. After that it had reached Ashuganj port yesterday. The distance between Ashuganj and Akhaura through roadways is only 30kn. From there it will move for Nandannagar FcI go-down loading in Bangladesh’s cabard-van.
