AGARTALA, June 1 (TIWN): Although there were reports of attacks on press and media in last few years, the new Information & Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar has stated in support of Freedom of Press and advertised his own party BJP claiming the party supports Freedom of Press.
Javadekar took charge as the I&B Minster after portfolios were allocated to the ministers.
“Press freedom is the essence of democracy and we not only recognise it but also cherish it”, said Java
He also accused the Congress government of curtailing the freedom of the press during the Emergency (1975-77) and called that period as a “black day for media”.
He said leaders like J.P. Narayan, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani fought hard to restore freedom of press.
Prakash Keshav Javadekar is an Indian politician. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and currently serving as the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
