Tripura Human Rights Organization Expressed Concerns about Tripura’s deteriorating Law and Order : Condemns increasing attacks on Journalists, Women

AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, May 11 (TIWN): After condemning attacks on Tripura’s arrested journalist Saikat Talapatra in the court premise, now Tripura Human Rights Organization has condemned the recent brutal murder of housewife at Bishalgarh who was hanged in a tree and burnt alive. Also in a press release, the organization has blamed the Govt for its failure to secure women, children and minors. Recently a housewife was burnt alive after she was hanged in a tree, which has shocked the state. The incident has taken place at Bajendranagar village under Madhupur PS of Bishalgarh, under Sepahijala District.The deceased has been identified as Anumati Chowdhury, W/O-Tinku Chowdhury.Father of the deceased Matilal Sarkar has filed an FIR against Anumati’s mother in law Maya Rani Chowdhury, Father in law Nirmal Chowdhury and two brother in laws Pintu Chowdhury and Banti Chowdhury.

Her husband Tinku Chowdhury also alleged that his family members have done this and when he attempted to stop them, he was also beaten.On May 8 night his wife was beaten and then her mouth was tightened with cloths and then hanged. Then they set fire on her body by pouring kerosene.

Deceased father has said, as his son-in-law is very simple and weak person. So whenever he protested for his wife, they also use to beat him.There were dowry pressures on Anumati and also her brother in laws attempted to physically assault her many times. 

DIG Arinadam Nath himself has interrogated the family members of deceased Anumati Sarkar. Banti (Tapas) Chowdhury, brother-in-law of the deceased has been arrested whereas rest of the family members were interrogated. Police also have interrogated sister-in-law Bulti Chowdhury in this case. 

Recently, Tripura Human Rights Organization executive member Koushik Nath has condemned the ugly attack on arrested journalist Saikat Talapatra on 29th April while Saikat was being taken inside the court for trial. The whole attack on the journalist even though identified was held under BJP’s Mohila Morcha activists, but police Headquarter directly denied for having any such information about the attack on the accused. Saikat was arrested for a facebook post where he never mentioned any person’s name. A national media has reported, Tripura HumanRights Organization (THRO) executive member Kaushik Nath blamed police for safeguarding the accused inside the court. Condemning the attack, he said, “He is just an accused and court yet to announce the judgement. This attack is illegal and never seen”.
