Tripura Re-Poll on May 12 in 168 booths : Congress alleges threat to voters, attack on Congress supporters

AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, May 11 (TIWN): Congress MP candidate Subal Bhowmik has alleged threat to voters, attack on Congress supporters. Tripura to undergo re-poll on May 12, for 168 booths whereas voters, opposition parties are depressed over the decision of Election Commission for such minimum numbers of booths’ repolling were announced. The ruling BJP however didn’t comment either in positive or in negative view regarding the re-poll whereas BJP supporters in some parts were almost going to boycott the election. Ground level survey says that each and every booth were manipulated except few exceptions. However, the opposition even though have moved to Supreme Court but said they are fully prepared for the re-poll in 168 booths. According to opposition parties, ECI’s decision of re-poll merely in 168 booths is not justified according to the demand. On the other side, BJP is resented over the decision of Election Commission of India for re-polling.However, total 10% seats have been announced for re-polling and the election will be conducted on 12th May.

The reasons due to which opposition parties demanded repoll are :

1)    Booth Capturing,

2)    CCTV footage damage,

3)    Voters prevention in local areas,

4)    Voters pushed out from voting rows selectively,

5)    Polling agents of the opposition were beaten, pushed out of the booths,

6)    Fake vote casting at a massive numbers,

7)    Haunting voters from door to door since April 10 night,

8)    Withdrawal of security forces due to which Additional DGP Rajiv Singh was removed from Law and Order Dept,

9)    Presiding Officers were beaten while carrying the EVMs,

10)  RO himself said around 433 booths were rigged,

11)  Massive video footage of election rigging across Tripura was exposed in social media,

12)  Viral video of BJP MP candidate Pratima Bhowmik where she is threatening in post-poll latenight an IPS Officer to kill on spot,

13)  Voters demanded re-poll including many BJP voters could not cast votes,

14)  RO to various electoral officers were punished under disciplinary action of ECI.

Congress has demanded CCTV footage from the CEO under Right-to-information.
