NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, May 9 (TIWN): Supreme Court of India on Thursday has rejected Tripura Left Parties plea of “urgent hearing” regarding the Total Repoll demand in its West Tripura constituency which was rigged massively on 11th April allegedly by ruling BJP. Chief Justice of India Tanjan Gogoi today declared, this case will go in regular process and there is no reason for any urgent hearing and time is still in hand. CPI-M's sitting MP of the West Tripura constituency Sankar Prasad Dutta had filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Wednesday afternoon demanding Supreme Court’s interference in Election Commission’s decision about re-polling in only 168 booths, whereas more than 50% booths were rigged leaving strong evidences. Supreme Court senior advocate Raju Ramchandran represented MP Sankar Prasad Dutta in the court. Advocate P B Dinesh and Tapas Dutta Majumder have assisted Mr. Ramchandran. Addressing media, Tripura CPI-M spokesperson Bijan Dhar at Melarmath CPI-M Headquarter said, even though election is on 12th May but Supreme Court of India has denied the urgent hearing. "We will continue our protest and strives for re-poll in the total West Tripura constituency and also will be battling in Supreme Court for common men's voting rights, which has been snatched by the BJP in Tripura", Bijan Dhar told media.

CPI-M's State General Secretary Gautam Das said, repolling in 168 booths (10%) is itself a rarest example in the whole country and for that it is the ruling BJP which is responsible.

The CPI-M leaders said even though ECI has declared very minimum seat numbers for re-poll but still BJP’s real face has been exposed before the country as ECI decision was taken due to poll-violence and rigging.

On yesterday, at 11 am CEO Sriram Taraniknati announced about re-poll in the 168 polling stations. On being asked by media, regarding the “should be” re-polling booths’ numbers which have been announced 168 altogether, CEO Sriram Taranikanti said, let’s not focus on how many booths should be re-polled whether less or more.Let us focus on the announced booths and reality, facts.

“Whatever it should be, but the fact is that the numbers of re-polling booths are 168 and the election to be conducted on 12th May from 7 am to 5 pm. This is a chance to prove that we can have a free and fair election”, said Sriram Taranikanti.

The assembly segments in Tripura West include Simna (ST), Mohanpur, Bamutia (SC), Barjala (SC), Khayerpur, Ramnagar, Town Bordowali, Majlishpur, Mandai Bazar, Takarjala (ST), Pratapgarh (SC), Badharghat (SC), Kamalasagar, Bishalgarh, Golghati, Charilam, Boxanagar, Nalchar, Sonamura, Dhanpur, Bagma (ST), Radhakishorepur, Matabari, Kakraban-Salgarah (SC), Rajnagar (SC) and Belonia. The ECI directed the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to ensure that wide publicity is given in the polling areas.
