Congress to file petition in SC against paltry  numbers of booths’ re-poll amidst massive rigging over 433 booths, demanded CCTV footage : Legal action against micro-observers of re-polled booths announced

AGARTALA, May 8 (TIWN): After re-poll was announced on Wednesday for only 10% booths of West Tripura constituency, in 168 booths in total, Tripura Congress has announced to move to the Supreme Court by tomorrow on the basis RO's letter which claimed 433 booths were vitiated on April 11. Addressing media, State Congress President Pradyot Manikya said, “Congress party is disappointed as only in 168 booths’ re-polls announced. But Congress party will not leave the ground. Congress party will contest the election staying on the ground. We have come to know that the status of Congress party is very stable but Congress is not going to release BJP at ease”. Pradyot Manikya also claimed that Congress will lead in each booth on May 12. “Apart from that Congress will also file a separate petition in the Supreme Court. But it can be remembered that a letter of the RO was leaked where he said 433 booths were vitiated. Based on that statement we will file petition in Supreme Court and will raise question how Election Commission figured out 168 booths ?”, said Pradyot Manikya.

 The Congress leader also said that his party will take legal action against micro observers who were present in these 168 booths where re-poll will be conducted on May 12.

Congress also will demand 433 booths’ footages and said, those footages should be shown to public.

Congress MP candidate Subal Bhowmik, Vice President Tapas Dey, senior leader cum Advocated Pijush Kanti Biswas, Harekrishna Bhowmik were present during the press conference.

On the other side, CPI-M has also filed a case in the Supreme Court.

The reactions came after ECI announced 168 booths’ re-poll in Tripura whereas the opposition parties demanded total re-poll in West Tripura.

ECI Secretary S.B. Joshi in a notification said, "After taking all material circumstances into account, the Election Commission declared under Sub-Sections (2) of Section 58 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 that the poll taken on April 11, 2019, at 168 polling stations in 1-Tripura West parliamentary constituency against the assembly segments to be void and appoints May 12 at the date and fix hours from 7 am to 5 pm for taking a fresh poll," an official statement said. The assembly segments in Tripura West include Simna (ST), Mohanpur, Bamutia (SC), Barjala (SC), Khayerpur, Ramnagar, Town Bordowali, Majlishpur, Mandai Bazar, Takarjala (ST), Pratapgarh (SC), Badharghat (SC), Kamalasagar, Bishalgarh, Golghati, Charilam, Boxanagar, Nalchar, Sonamura, Dhanpur, Bagma (ST), Radhakishorepur, Matabari, Kakraban-Salgarah (SC), Rajnagar (SC) and Belonia.
