KAMALPUR, OCT. 15, (TIWN): Regarding the issue of a girl, the tension and stern attitude of both the parties deepened so much that the SDM had to force section 144 of Cr. P.C. to prevent any untoward incident. The rigidity of social prejudices made the situation worsen here at Barasurma village under Kamalpur subdivision.

According to the local people, way back in 2011 some Anjana Sinha, daughter of Kunjadhan Sinha of Manipuri subcaste of Manipuri community got married with some Bikram Gupta of Khowai who belongs to socially lower positioned Kirtania subcaste of Manipuri community. Many of the villagers could not accept the marriage as marital relation between these two community is illegal according to Manipuri social custom. Five days after the marriage, the elder brother of Anjana, Tarun kr. Sinha who is an advocate of Pune Highcourt, arranged a social feast at their village. In this feast some Manipuri families and 11 Manipuri Social heads did not took part. At this, Tarun became irritated and served notice to those eleven heads demanding a compensation of 11,00,000 rupees at a rate of 1,00,00 rupees per head. However, they not responded to the notice and later Tarun filed a case against them with the SDJM Court, Kamalpur in which all of the accused were set free. Meanwhile, the family of Anjana and the entire Manipuri community got parted in two counterparts. Several meetings and discussions were also held , even from the part of the then SDM Rakhi Biswas, to mitigate the issue but in vain. Recently, the father of Anjana, Kunjadhan passed away and Tarun declared to have the funeral works of his father at their Temple according to the rituals. But the greater part denied to access the opportunity for Tarun before mitigating the issue. Thinking of any untoward clash between the both parties the SDM, Kamalpur yesterday issued a notice No. F.6(01)SDM/KMP/JDL/2014/7516-20 effecting the Section 144 of Cr.P.C. in the area from 2.30 pm yesterday to 8 pm today. Police is occasionally patrolling in the area but no incident is reported so far. Many are of the view that conflict based on caste prejudices, even today is a shameful deed and we should get rid of it.
