After Lenin, King Bir Bikram now Bengali poet Sukanta’s statue demolished in Tripura

NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, May 4 (TIWN): After Lenin’s statue was bulldozed in Tripura on the very day of Election result on March 3rd followed by many similar incidents, today Bengali poet Sukanta Bhattacharya’s statue was broken in the state.

The incident took place at Bishalgrah block and allegations have raised against ruling BJP.

Earlier, BJP had destroyed many statues including former Deputy CM, King Bir Bikram Manikya and many more persons.

Resentments have brewed among the locals after the poet’s statue was broken by miscreants.

Also question raised over the security, law and order of the state.

Communist party consider poet Sukanta as a great Communist leader.

Sukanta Bhattacharya was a Bengali poet and playwright. Along with Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, he was one of the key figures of modern Bengali poetry, despite the fact that most of his works had been in publication posthumously.
