TIWN April 30, 2019

AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, April 30 (TIWN): Cyclone alert was sounded in Tripura by the Weather Dept. The northeastern states of India i.e. Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura have been observing widespread rain and thundershower activities since the last two days.
At present, an anti-cyclone is over North Bay of Bengal which is feeding moisture over the northeastern states. Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is seen persisting over Bangladesh and its adjoining region.
Thus, with the combined effect of both these weather systems, rain and thundershower activities are expected to continue with good intensity for the coming one week.
By May 5 and 6, the remnants of Cyclone Fani will reach Northeast India and during that time the intensity of rainfall activities will increase significantly. Heavy to very heavy spells of rain accompanied with violent lightning strikes and hailstorm in parts will lash the region.
Such widespread heavy rains will lead to a lot of disruption in terms of flash floods, landslides, road blockages etc. over many parts of the northeastern states.
Further by May 7, as the weather systems will move away weather conditions over northeast India will also start clearing up. And thereafter, only isolated rains in one or two pockets will be witnessed, reported Skymetweather.com
In fact, recently in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, cloudburst was reported in the Bomdila town in West Kameng district which was accompanied by a hailstorm, heavy lightning and thunderstorm activities.
