AGARTALA / AMARPUR, April 23 (TIWN): Police have arrested two BJP polling agents at Sankar Palli’s No-2 booth after he was marking voters at a polling station sitting in an area which is not allowed for poling agents.

This move was taken by DM Gomati T K Debnath after seeing both BJP polling agents’ unlawful activities inside the polling station.

Followed by the arrest polling agent Suman Debnath along with one more polling agnet’, BJP blocked road and created gathering on the highway. According to BJP, at Amarpur no incident against voters’ interest has occurred, whereas DM said whatever police and authority have done is correct, hence BJP may complain to the higher authority if they have any doubt.

Addressing media, DM of the Gomati District said, “2 persons can have nominations. One person can stay in the polling station and another works as his reliever. Two persons can never stay together. I have seen in 2 particular places that against rule the polling agent is provoking voters from the row. This is totally illegal. They could sit 200 metre far from polling booths. But crossing BLOs, such polling agents are acting by totally violating the rules. So, we have handed-over them to police”.

The DM also said that no gathering will be allowed in any area.
